ZIMMERMAN, THIRLBY, FELTNER,RENDEL AND JACKSON ALL CAPTURE BUTLER FEATURE WINS.
Doug Zimmerman in
Winged Sprint Cars, Collin Thirlby in UMP Modifieds, Dwayne Feltner in
Sportsman, Jarrett Rendel in Street Stocks and Eric Jackson in Mini Sprints all
captured feature checkers at Butler Motor Speedway.
With a huge crowd on
hand and a heavy racing surface, conditions were optimal for some great
racing. The Mini Sprint feature would be
the first to roll onto the track. Nick
Nelson would jump to an early lead. The
race would slow on lap 3 for Scott Waldron and Bryce Nichols getting connected
together. Both racers would
continue. Nelson would continue to lead
until Eric Jackson would make his way by.
Jackson
would go on to collect his second consecutive Butler Mini Sprint feature win
event over Nelson. Derek Donaldson, Brad
Underwood and Waldron would round out the top 5. Jackson
would also collect the heat race.
The Street Stock
feature would roll off next with Bob Hill and Terry Bumpus leading the field to
the green. Bumpus would charge out to an
early lead. The race would be slowed for
some single car spins. 6th
starting Jarrett Rendel would work his way to the front, driving the car
normally driven by his dad Bob. The
races only multicar incident would occur when Chris Garrett would experience a
flat right rear tire coming off turn 4 and collect a couple cars. Garrett and Jake Rendel would go pitside for
flat tires. They would both return and
continue the battle for the season long championship. Out front, Jarrett Rendel would continue to
lead. Jarrett would go on to collect his
first 2012 feature win event over Bumpus.
Matt Rose, Dustin Hyliard and Jeff Hinkley Jr would round out the top
5. Jarrett Rendel, Jake Rendel and Terry
Milliman would capture the heats, while Hyliard would grab the B main.
The UMP Modified feature
would roll onto the 3/8 mile with Jake Bailey and Josh Lolmaugh leading the
field off turn 4. Lolmaugh would charge
into the lead. Fourth starting and 2012
Butler Dirt Cup winner Collin Thirlby, would jump into the mix
immediately. Lolmaugh was making a
strong run out front, until Thirlby was able to make a slide job stick on lap
13. From there, Thirlby would go on to
collect the win over Lolmaugh. Jake
Bailey, Tommy Beezley and Mike Tarlton would round out the top 5. Corey Bevard, Ryan Ordway, Lolmaugh and Todd
Sherman would all grab heat wins. Dillon
Nusbaum was victorious in the 18 car B main.
The Winged Outlaw
Sprint Car feature would roll out onto the speedway next. The anticipation of what was about to take
place was exciting, as Brian Lay and current point leader Doug Zimmerman would
start on the front row, with what most thought would be a huge duel to turn
1. Zimmerman, the Butler veteran, would surge into the lead
while Lay would roll into the infield with mechanical woes. Josh Turner would settle into 2nd
and begin his chase of Zimmerman. The
race would come to a stop as Gerry Hart would see his Sprinter come to a stop
an its side. A couple minor cautions for debris and a stopped car would not
hinder Zimmerman, as he would go on to grab another feature win. Chasin g him to the line would be Kevin
Atkins, Ryan Kirkendall, Bill Jacoby and Brad Lamberson. Heat races were won by Atkins, Hart and Lay. Heat race action would see a scary crash
between Scott Hasen and Brad Lamberson, with both cars flipping wildly. Both drivers were ok, but Hasen would be done
for the night. The Lamberson crew was
able to get the car back together, where Brad would charge from 16th
to 5th in the feature event.
The Sportsman event
would be the final event of the night with Steve Langdon and Wes Bates bringing
the field to green. Bates, Jake Rendel and Steve Billingsley would all
be collected in a first lap incident.
Billingsley would see his night end with the crash. Dwayne Feltner would jump into the lead. A lap 9 red would fly when Elzie Kipp would
catch fire. Kipp would be fine, but his
racer would be done for the night.
Feltner would go on to capture the feature win over Langdon. Fred VanEvey, Deuane Morley and Steve
Woodruff would round out the top 5. Tim
Wilber and Wes Bates would capture the heat wins.
Before the feature
races, the Fireworks program would go off. This program was the rescheduled
show from July. During the extreme heat
and dry during the July months, the local officials put a burn ban into place
requiring the track to postpone the fireworks display. The fans were not disappointed as the
fireworks display would light up the sky.
This Saturday Sep 8
will see the full 4 in 1 program of Winged Sprint Cars, UMP Modifieds, Sportsman
and Street Stocks. This will be the
final points night for all the racers.
Then on Sep 15, the
full 4 in 1 program and Season Championship night will take place.
