ZIMMERMAN, BEVARD, WILBER AND BUTTERS CAPTURE FEATURE WINS.

Doug Zimmerman in Winged Sprint Cars, Corey Bevard in UMP Modifieds, Tim Wilber in Sportsman and Kevin Butters in Street Stocks all flew to feature wins at Butler Motor Speedway.

Saturday night at Butler saw the Legends of the Past Oldtimers night with the cars and stars of years past set up on display at the entrance to the Speedway, as well as an on track hot lap session of some of the cars.

The first feature to hit the 3/8 mile speedplant would be the Street Stocks with Terry Milliman and Levi Collins bringing the field to green.  Collins would jump into the lead until a lap 2 yellow for a slowing Jarrett Rendel.  Collins would take off and lead the restart with Milliman taking over the point on lap 3.  A lap 10 yellow for contact that would collect John Ruby and Robert VanderPloeg.  Back under green, Milliman would lead with Kevin Butters riding in 2nd when the yellow would fly for Jeff Hinkley Jr rolling to a stop just on the infield.  On the restart, Butters would take advantage of a good jump and get by Milliman.  Butters would go on to win the feature over Milliman.  Dustin Hyliard, Chris Garrett and last weeks feature winner, Keith Hiller would round out the top 5.  Heat races were won by Jake Rendel, Garrett, Hiller and VanderPloeg.  The nights scariest events happened during the Street Stock B main when 2 separate roll over crashes happened involving Will Smith and Troy Patton.  Both drivers emerged from the cars, but both cars suffered heavy damage and were done for the night.  Brian Judd would be the winner of the B main.

The next race out onto the Speedway would be the Sportsman feature with the brothers Rendel leading the field to the green.  Jake would lead Jarrett at the start.  On lap 3 Jake would get out of shape and 3rd place starting Tim Wilber would get by for the lead.  On the 4th circuit, the yellow would fly for a spinning Jarrett Rendel.  Wilber would continue in the lead with Steve Langdon in tow when a lap 9 yellow would fly for a spin by Fred VanEvey.  The race would run to conclusion with Wilber collecting the feature win ahead of Langdon.  Dwayne Feltner, Scott Gaff and Jake Rendel would round out the top 5.  Heat race wins would go to Feltner and Wilber.

The Winged Sprint Car feature would roll off with Brad Lamberson and Chad Hart leading the field to green.  Rookie racer Lamberson would charge out into the lead with Hart dropping into 2nd.  The yellow would fly on lap 4 for a single car spin by Josh Mohr.  Lamberson would continue to lead when contact between Mike Burns and Len Robison would bring out the yellow for Robison spinning. Doug Zimmerman would move past Hart for 2nd when the yellow would wave on lap 12 for a spinning Chad Wilson.  Lamberson would lead the restart, when on lap 14 currnet point leader Zimmerman would get by for the lead.  A lap 24 caution for a 2 car crash with Mike Burns and Gerry Hart would set up a one lap shootout for the win.  Zimmerman would get a great start and hold off Lamberson for the win.  Hart, Bill Jacoby and Shelby Bilton would round out the top 5.  Heat race winners were Bilton and Jacoby.

The UMP Modified feature would be the final event of the night and would see Corey Bevard and Steve Shellenberger bring the field to green.  Bevard would jump to the lead and Shellenberger would drop into 2nd place.  The race would quickly become a battle for 3rd between Mitch Kirkendall and Tommy Beezley.  The race would see numerous yellows for single car spins.  Bevard would continue to lead and Shellenberger run 2nd, while the back and forth battle for 3rd would see Beezley and Kirkendall trading the spot back and forth.  Tim Wilber, who started 18th, would show himself inside the top 5 late in the race.  On lap 14, with Bevard leading, 2nd place running Shellenberger would have mechanical woes and pull into the infield ending his good run.  Bevard would go on to win the feature event ahead of Beezley, Kirkendall, Wilber and Josh Lolmaugh rounding out the top 5.  Heat races would be captured by Beezley, Miller, Bevard and Jordan Bailey.  Doug McLachlan won the B main.

Coming up on Saturday July 28, the full 4 in 1 program of Winged Sprint Cars, UMP Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks will be joined by the Mini Sprint class.  The Mini Sprints have run 2 prior events this season at the Speedway with Denny Donaldson and Brandon Hagar capturing the feature wins.

Mark your calendars for August 18, as Butler Motor Speedway will host the All Stars Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars.  The travelling group of Sprint Cars will invade the 3/8 mile where the 2011 winner of the event was Dale Blaney.  On hand with the All Stars will be the UMP Modifieds and Sportsman.
