HORTSMAN, RENDEL AND WILBER ALL GRAB FEATURE CHECKERS
Jared Hortsman in Winged Sprint Cars, Jake Rendel in UMP
Modifieds and Street Stocks, and Tim Wilber in Sportsman were all victorious in
feature events Saturday night at the Butler Motor Speedway.
From the minute I
set foot on the grounds of the Speedway,
you could tell things were different this week.
The track had undergone a complete rework with help from a professional excavating company, and the Butler
track staff. Numerous days of excavating
work and countless number of man hours were put in during the week in an
attempt to better the track for racing.
The transitions into the banking were smoother and the attempt was put
in to make the bottom of turn one a little better. After hot laps, the excavating crew took to the
track, to recut the bottom, to make it smoother prior to racing action. In the meantime, the Butler crew was changing out the pump motor
for the water truck. The motor had a
complete rebuild put on it prior to the season, but it still quit. The crew scrambled to change out the pump
motor with a different one, and it was race time.

The racing itself
would be very good and the UMP modifieds would be the first feature to hit the
track. Jake Rendel would take advantage
of a front row starting position and would go on to win the feature, holding
off challenges from Jake Bailey, Tim Wilber and Nick Kurtz. Mike Tarlton would round out the top 5. Twenty five modifieds would take to the
speedway on this night with Josh Lolmaugh, Mark Pifer and Justin Matson all
winning heat races, while Jordan Bailey would capture the B main.
The Street Stock
feature event would roll out next. Jake
Rendel would waste little time jumping into the lead and would go on to win the
feature over Chris Garrett, Bob Rendel, Terry Milliman and Jeff Hinkley
Jr. With 33 Street Stocks on hand, heat
races were won by Hinkley Jr, Milliman, Bob Rendel and Chris Garrett while
Randy Smith won the B Main.
The Sprint Car
feature would roll out next and would see the initial start come to a stop as
Aaron Huff would flip in turn 1. A
complete restart would see Mike Burns jump to the lead until lap 6 when 5th
place starting Jared Hortsman would charge around Burns. The race would come to a halt on lap 17 when
Burns and Max Stambaugh would take a nasty double flip. Both drivers were ok, but the cars both
suffered heavy damage. Hortsman would
motor to the feature win, followed by Doug Zimmerman, Chris Jones, John Gall
and Shawn Dancer rounding out the top 5.
With 22 Winged Sprint Cars taking action, the heat races were won by
Shelby Bilton, Zimmerman and Brad Lamberson.
Scott Hull would capture the B main.
The Sportsman would
be the final race of the night with Tim Wilber taking the win over Dwayne
Feltner, Logan Beckwith, Jake Rendel and Steve Langdon rounding out the top 5. With 13 Sportsman on hand, the heat races
were won by Beckwith and Wilber.
A huge thank you
goes out to the professional excavating crew and the
Butler track
crew for the hours spent working on the track for, and during the Saturday
night program.
Upcoming on
June 16th, the Michigan Dirt Cup Modifieds will invade the Butler
Motor Speedway. Joey Fowler picked up
the $1500 payday in the 2011 event. With
the normal Butler
modified count always being big, as well as, bringing the outside invaders in,
this promises to be a great event. If
the Dirt Cup Modifieds aren't enough, the Winged Sprint Cars and Street Stocks
will also do battle on the 3/8 mile Speedway.
