Ladies know way to victory lane

It was Ladies Night in victory lane at Butler Speedway, as Jessi Sroufe (sportsman) and Sheryll Dishaw (street stocks) came away with feature wins. Also making their way to victory lane were Ben Rutan (winged sprints) and Jon Hadley (modifieds).

Mackey wins Braithwaite Memorial
Corey Bevard, behind the wheel of the restored Art Braithwaite sprint car, led the sprint car field in a missing man formation as Butler Speedway honored one of its heroes on Saturday during the Art Braithwaite Memorial. Nine-time track champion Ken Mackey came away the winner, capturing his second Butler feature win of the 2009 season.

Other feature winners were Ryan Langston (mini sprints), Mike Tarlton (UMP Modifieds), Logan Beckwith (sportsman), and Donnie Ritter (street stocks).
Irwin wins MTS event at Butler

Homestate driver Steve Irwin made his way to victory lane on Saturday as the Michigan Traditional Sprints (MTS) made a visit to Butler Speedway during Round 2 of the Michigan vs. Ohio challenge. Matt Westfall, the winner of the opening round a week earlier at Waynesfield Motorsports Park, drove to a third-place finish in the feature event. Doug Zimmerman was the top Butler regular in the finishing order, taking second.

Other feature victories went to Michael Tarlton (UMP Modifieds), Jake Rendel (sportsman), Jessi Sroufe (sportsman make-up), Ronald McCumbers (street stocks), and Bob Rendel  (street stocks make-up).

Robinson beats Bevard to the line
Nathan Bevard had his first feature checker in sight during Saturday's winged sprint feature at Butler Speedway, only to see Sean Robinson go by just feet prior to the flagstand on the final circuit to steal the victory away. It was the second feature win of the season for Robinson. Bevard was second at the checker

Other feature wins went to Zack Olger (late models) and Josh Lolmaugh (UMP modifieds). Sportsman and street stock features were washed out by rain.
Boom Briggs wins All Stars Late Model Series event

Boom Briggs, Bear Lake, PA, used the high line of Butler ‘Battlegrounds’ Speedway to get by Wheelersburg, OH’s Rod Conley with ten laps to go to pick up his third O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series win of the 2009 season.  “I needed this one bad,” Boom said as he climbed out of his Horton Equipment / Sorbera Family Chiropractic / CJ's Auto Transport / Briggs Transport / Sunset Dairy / American Racer Tires Rocket Chassis in Victory Lane.  “I was riding around on the bottom there and seen (Mike) Knight show me his nose on the outside so I thought I’d go up there to see if I could find traction.  I struggled to get into a solid rhythm after (Rod) Conley got by me but once we got on top the car just kind of took off,” Briggs exclaimed.

Other feature winners were Tommy Beezley (UMP modifieds) and Ronald McCumbers (street stocks).

Robinson comes through pack for win
Sean Robinson was on the move on Saturday at Butler Speedway during Spring Championships sponsored by Countryside Trophy in Pittsford. The track's 2007 winged sprint champion breezed from a 10th-place starting spot to take his first feature victory of the season.

Other feature winners were Terry Sroufe (late models and street stocks), Zeke McKenzie (modifieds), and Robert Page (sportsman).
Shammo, Reeve, McKenzie , Beckwith , McCumbers take features

While many race tracks threw in the towel and gave into poor weather conditions, Butler Speedway's staff dug deep on Saturday to put on a program. Well over 100 cars filled the pits to overflowing, with feature victories going to Andy Shammo (winged sprints), Kevin Reeve (late models), Zeke McKenzie (UMP modifieds), Logan Beckwith (sportsman), and Robert McCumbers (street stocks).

Cancellations of most of the area's tracks brought several drivers to Butler for the first time this season, with three of five feature wins going to drivers that would have been racing elsewhere. Shammo is a regular at Fremont (Oh.) Speedway. Reeve races at Oakshade (Oh.) Raceway, and Beckwith also normally competes elsewhere.
Mackey claims opening race of season

Ken Mackey wasted little time in taking his new ride to victory lane. Mackey, who closed last season at Butler Speedway with a victory in his final ride aboard the Renshaw/Bevard Motorsports mount, opened the 2009 season at the speedway with a victory as he has moved back in his family-owned #25m.
Other feature winners were Terry Sroufe (late models), Tommy Beezley
(modifieds), Glenn Heath (street stocks), and Ronald McCumbers (street stocks).
